Samburu National Reserve

Located on the fringes of Kenya's semi-arid Northern region, Samburu National Reserve is a unique oasis in the otherwise fairly hostile terrain and weather, offering the challenge of a true tropical safari. Criss-crossing this low plateau, is the wide Uaso Nyiro River famed for its large population of hippos and crocodiles.

The reserve contains species of game which are unique to this area, like the long necked gerenuk, grevy zebra with their unusual and beautiful stripy patterns and the reticulated giraffe.

In the adjacent Buffalo Springs National reserve, which hosts similar wildlife to Samburu, you find two attractive lodges and luxury tented camps. These might well save your day just in case you feel worn out after Kenya's most grueling safari...
